Canada adds 7,220 new cases of the coronavirus as per reports on Tuesday. This brings the total number of infected individuals in Canada to a whopping 618,164.

According to reports released by health authorities, 159 more people have succumbed to the viral infection. This brings the total number of deaths in the country to 16,233.

With the above account, the total number of hospitalizations also went from 193 to 4,361 on Tuesday.

However, the good news is that 523,564 people have also recovered since the pandemic after contracting the illness that causes respiratory fibrosis. So far, 18,973,438 tests have been administered across the country.

The new addition of contractions came in as health officials of the country aim to administer vaccines to those who are most vulnerable as the pandemic continues to rise.

Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said at a press conference in Ottawa on Tuesday that he is frustrated after coming to know that many vaccines aimed to combat the COVID-19 surge are just sitting in freezers instead of being administered to those in need immediately.

He added that this discontinuity is directing them to work closely with the various provinces of the country that will make sure to deliver the vaccines to all individuals in need and also to support them to get more vaccines that will cater to the frontline workers and those are at risk with the infection as soon as possible.

Trudeau said that over the past few weeks the various provinces increased their rate of vaccination. As 2021 officially sets in, the delivery will surely accelerate in terms of delivery and administration.

On the other hand, Dr. Theresa Tam, Canada’s Chief Public Health Officer said on Tuesday that she has spoken with the National Advisory Committee on immunization or NACI to look into the fact if it will be more feasible to hand out the first batch of doses faster to more people by delaying the second batch.

So far, Canada has two approved vaccines under its name made by Pfizer-BioNTech and Moderna. Both need the administration of two does weeks apart.

The government received backlash regarding its distribution pace of vaccine rollout since Canada falls far behind other countries such as the United Kingdom and the United States. The Prime Minister has confirmed that the administration of the doses will increase by taking into account individual numbers of affected people in each province.

Experts are already predicting that the second wave may dramatically increase the number of infected individuals.

Since the reports of the first detected cases were identified in Wuhan, China in December 2019, the virus claimed 1,865,267 lives globally.

As of Tuesday, the United States of America remained the global epicenter of the viral infection. The country has reported so far more than 21 million cases of infections.

The number of fatalities owing to viral infection in the world stands at 356,500.
