This Wednesday, American President Joe Biden stated that he thinks Russia might invade Ukraine. He further explained that Russian President Vladimir Putin can give an order to do so very soon. He said that Mr. Putin might be testing the West, particularly the US and NATO.

In the two-hour news conference in the East room situated at the White House, told the reporters that Mr. Putin will pay a great price and he will regret it dearly if he does attack Ukraine.

The president later said that Mr. Putin’s move might not be a full-scale invasion of Ukraine. But still, his announcement adds fuel to the current intelligent assessment done by the White House officials, which said Mr. Putin still has not decided whether he will invade Ukraine. As the US President has declared the news, now it will put more concern on Ukraine and NATO allies. Also because he has already acknowledged partial invasion on Mr. Putin’s side, the NATO nations might be divided on the severity of their reaction.

President Biden said that it is vital to keep everyone on the same page in NATO. He said that he is spending a lot of time doing so. there are differences in the opinions of the NATO members, according to him. The NATO countries have different opinions on what they will do and to what degree they are able to go.

He further added that they are going to increase troop presence in areas like Romania, Poland, and some other places if President Putin makes a move. Pentagon officials said that if the attack happens, it will strengthen Russia’s power in the eastern regions of Ukraine, where there is already a war going on for 8 years between the country and the Russia-backed separatists after Russia seized Crimea.

A half-hour after the conference was over, White House press secretary Jen Psaki clarified the statement made by the President by saying that if Russia makes any move over the border, Mr. Biden will treat it as an invasion and is reserving the judgment based on NATO’s reaction on the matter.

Thirty-six hours after the conference, Secretary of State, Antony J. Blinken was to meet his Russian counterpart Sergey V. Lavrov, in Geneva on Friday. But the president has said that he was unsure whether the diplomats of Russia who are negotiating for Mr. Putin understood what their President actually wanted and what he planned.
