We had the chance to pick her brains about her new book ‘The Mirror Effect: What You See Is How You Lead’ and here is what we could find –
Q. Who do you think will read your book more, the ordinary employees or their leaders at workplaces?
Valentina: While my book is primarily directed toward leaders at various levels, I believe it has valuable insights for anyone who wants to understand how workplace culture is shaped. Leaders are naturally drawn to it because it addresses how their behaviors and mindsets can either enhance or undermine the culture they’re trying to build. However, it also offers employees a chance to understand the dynamics of leadership and culture, enabling them to contribute to a healthier work environment proactively.
Q. What made you write on a topic like this?
Valentina: Over the years, I’ve observed a recurring theme in my work with leaders: the culture within an organization is often a reflection of the leader’s mindset, behaviors, and habits. Yet, many leaders struggle to bridge the gap between knowing what they want to create and consistently acting in a way that reinforces it. I wanted to provide a roadmap that guides leaders through the steps needed to cultivate an intentional, high-performing culture.
Q. Did you ever face such a problem when you were just getting started in this field?
Valentina: Absolutely. Early in my career, I observed how challenging it could be for leaders to bring their cultural vision to life amidst the pressures of daily responsibilities. Seeing this struggle firsthand drove me to dig deeper into understanding what it takes for leaders to truly influence and shape culture. This book is a culmination of those experiences and the lessons I’ve learned along the way.
Q. What do you want your readers to understand when they read this book that will stick to them till the end?
Valentina: I hope readers will grasp that leadership is about consistent, intentional actions that align with a vision. Culture doesn’t happen overnight or by chance; it’s created through a leader’s day-to-day behaviors and the way they respond in both predictable and unpredictable situations. I want leaders to realize that the first step in transforming their workplace culture is to look in the mirror and make sure they’re embodying the values they wish to see.
Q. Why do you think a book like yours was needed at this time in the world?
Valentina: Organizations today are undergoing rapid changes, and with the growing focus on employee well-being, inclusivity, and psychological safety, leaders need practical, human-centered tools to create sustainable culture change. My book meets this need by providing actionable steps grounded in the realities of today’s workplace, enabling leaders to foster a culture that supports both organizational and individual growth.
Q. Did you or do you have anyone that made you feel like there should be a change in the working field? If so, who they are and how did they make you realize it?
Valentina: Yes, throughout my career, I’ve been inspired by leaders who strive to create positive change, even when it’s challenging. One such leader was a mentor who taught me that leadership isn’t about titles but about influence and responsibility. Watching how they empowered their teams, fostered openness, and embraced continuous learning showed me the profound impact a strong leader can have on organizational culture.
Q. Apart from the massive success of your previous book, how do you think the new launch will perform?
Valentina: I’m optimistic that this book will resonate with readers because it addresses a universal challenge faced by leaders across all industries. I believe the combination of practical advice, real-life examples, and a strong emphasis on self-awareness will make it an impactful resource. The early feedback has been encouraging, and I’m hopeful it will continue to build momentum.
Q. When you were young, did you ever think of becoming such an established professional in this world?
Valentina: Not specifically, no. Growing up, I was always passionate about understanding people and the dynamics of teams, but I didn’t envision becoming an author or a recognized professional in leadership coaching. I think my journey was guided by my curiosity and my desire to make a positive impact, which eventually led me to where I am today.
Q. Do you have some new topics in your mind that you would like to cover in your next book? If so, what are they?
Valentina: Yes, I’m currently exploring topics related to micro-behaviors and their impact on macro-level cultural change. I believe there’s an opportunity to delve deeper into how small, everyday actions by leaders can cumulatively shape the larger organizational culture. This is a topic that aligns with my ongoing research and could be a powerful next step.
Q. What was your thought process when you started writing the new book?
Valentina: My thought process was focused on making complex leadership principles accessible and actionable. I wanted to create a book that wasn’t just informative but also practical, providing leaders with clear steps they could take to make an immediate impact. My aim was to strike a balance between theory and application, offering a guide that leaders could keep coming back to as they evolve in their roles.
Q. What is your end goal in life career-wise?
Valentina: My end goal is to inspire and equip leaders around the world to create healthier, more inclusive, and high-performing workplace cultures. I want my work to leave a lasting impact by shifting how people view leadership—not just as a role, but as a responsibility to shape a positive environment for others.
Q. Do you have something specific to say to your readers as to why they should buy the book?
Valentina: Yes, I’d say to any reader considering this book: if you’re a leader who’s committed to growth and wants to make a meaningful difference in your organization, this book is for you. It’s designed to help you uncover the patterns within yourself that may be affecting your team and provides a roadmap to transform those patterns into strengths that positively shape your workplace culture.
