James Koehler, MD, DDS, a Cosmetic Surgeon at Eastern Shore Cosmetic Surgery

Dr. Koehler is an attending physician at Thomas Medical Center, Infirmary Health in Fairhope, Alabama, and currently serves on the surgery steering committee.

Equipped with a Bachelor of Science degree, Dr. Koehler obtained a Doctor of Dental Surgery degree from the University of Alberta in 1994. Dr. Koehler received a medical degree at the University of Alabama School of Medicine in 1999, where he graduated Magna Cum Laude and Alpha Omega Alpha honors. 

Dr. Koehler then completed a general surgery residency at the University of Washington and Harborview Medical Center in Seattle, Washington, followed by advanced training in maxillofacial surgery at the University of Alabama and a facial cosmetic surgery fellowship under the guidance of Dr. Peter Waite. Dr. Koehler further performed a two-year fellowship in full-body cosmetic surgery in Tulsa, Oklahoma. 

Subsequent to his formal training, Dr. Koehler became board certified in facial and body cosmetic surgery by the American Board of Cosmetic Surgery.  He is also currently a Trustee for the American Board of Cosmetic Surgery.

Plastic surgery is a surgical specialty involving the restoration, reconstruction, or alteration of the human body. It can be divided into two main categories: reconstructive surgery and cosmetic surgery. Reconstructive surgery includes craniofacial surgery, hand surgery, microsurgery, and the treatment of burns.

Earlier in his career, Dr. Koehler held a faculty position as Assistant Professor in the Department of Surgery at the University of Alabama School of Medicine. Moreover, he practiced cosmetic surgery at Tulsa Surgical Arts in Tulsa, Oklahoma, from 2004 until 2014, when he took over Dr. Bill Staggers’ plastic surgery practice in Fairhope to be closer to family in Alabama.
