Black Men Filed Lawsuit Against American Airlines for Racial Discrimination

In the 21st century, people are still discriminated against based on their skin. Recently, three men have filed a lawsuit against American Airlines. They have filed a lawsuit for racial discrimination. These three men have said they had been removed from the flight for the complaint of body odor. Those three men didn’t know each other. Yet they are the ones who have been removed from the flight. Now it is coming to know that, since 5th January, American Airlines have removed black men from the flights from Arizona and Phoenix, which were coming to New York. No one doesn’t know the reason behind such behavior till now.
Among three men, one has said ‘American Airlines singled us out for being Black, embarrassed us, and humiliated us’. The investigation is going on right now to know more about this incident. From the filed lawsuit, it is coming to know that they already took their seats on the flight and were preparing to depart. At the very last moment, a flight attendant approached them and asked them to exit from the flight. Emmanuel Jean Joseph, Alvin Jackson, and Xavier Veal were the three people who filed the lawsuit. They have also said that, while exiting from the flight, they have realized that all the black people were being removed from the flight.
They have also added that before that day, they had flown down from Los Angeles, California and no one has faced any issues like this. They have gotten such behavior for the very first time from American Airlines. At the gate of the flight, the three black men saw five other black men being removed too. And then an agent said ‘removed because a white male flight attendant had complained about an unidentified passenger’s body odor’.
One of them has said ‘There is no explanation other than the color of our skin. Clearly this was racial discrimination’. After the incident, American Airlines tried to reschedule their flight, but there were no other flights that night. And that is why, the airline company had to give them their original seats. In a statement, American Airlines has said ‘We take all claims of discrimination very seriously and want our customers to have a positive experience when they choose to fly with us.Our teams are currently investigating the matter, as the claims do not reflect our core values or our purpose of caring for people’. No one should get this kind of behavior from anyone. And for that reason, everyone is wondering how an airline company can do that to its customers.
In the lawsuit, they have mentioned that ‘Throughout the flight – from the moment of their reboarding, in each interaction with the white male flight attendant, and continuing until landing – Plaintiffs experienced profound feelings of embarrassment, humiliation, anxiety, anger, and distress’. It also says ‘The act of returning to their seats after the unwarranted delay, navigating past the predominantly white passengers, several of whom eyed them with anger and undue suspicion, compounded their humiliation’.
