A female commander in the Israeli Defense Forces turned poet Yael S. Hacohen releases a new book called ‘The Dove That Didn’t Return’, available on Amazon.

Yael S. Hacohen

Talented author Yael S. Hacohen brings a new perspective from Israel like never before with her latest book The Dove That Didn’t Return. A complete collection of beautiful poems, this book will shine a light on the war-torn front lines of the Middle East conflict that is still going on, claiming the lives of thousands of people. The talented poet is also a female commander in the Israeli Defense Forces who presents an original perspective on the situation, reflecting on things that were never in the public eye before. ‘The Dove That Didn’t Return’ comprises war poetry, previously penned from a male point of view, written by male poets. Now with this new book, Hacohen brings out a female perspective and how the war is making a serious impact on women, especially those who are serving in the Israeli Defense Force.

‘The Dove That Didn’t Return’ includes biblical stories, verses, and fragments that are re-written through the eyes of a female lieutenant in the Israeli Army. The author started writing the collection of poems while still being a lieutenant in the army and continued writing and reflecting on her experiences throughout her reserve duty in the army. The collection of contemporary poetics comes from the talented young author’s real-life experiences of seeing wars in different stages of her life. She had witnessed the tough and dangerous times of war and the irregular life since she was a child, throughout her career as a soldier, and as a commander, and now through her motherhood. The inspiration behind the collection of poetries comes from her first-hand experiences of hearing explosions, seeing rockets launch and land on rooftops, people being injured, and buildings collapsing. The author brilliantly took all these horrific experiences and penned down some of the most real and heart-wrenching poetry pieces.

With the new book, the author hopes to deliver the message of peace and its existence. Hacohen believes that as long as people hold each other with their complexities, pressures, wishes, and dreams, peace can and will come.
