The 6th edition of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) got halted because of the Covid-19 situation. The remainder of the truncated league is all set to go ahead in Abu Dhabi after it has been confirmed by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) that they have received all kinds of exemptions and outstanding approvals from the government of the United Arab Emirates. An online meeting is now going to be held by the PCB with its franchises later on today to apprise them of the situation and all the details are going to be finalized that are going to be shared in the due course.

The Chief Executive of PCB, Wasim Khan has said that they are delighted with the present developments as the remaining hurdles that are there in the staging of the remaining matches of HBL PSL 6 in Abu Dhabi have been duly overcome and all the systems are now good to go.

He also added that he is very grateful to the government of UAE and the Emirates Cricket Board, National Emergency Crisis and Disaster Management Authority, and also Abu Dhabi Sports Council for lending their patronage and support in ensuring that all the final obstacles are removed and it has firmly put PCB in a position to complete the marquee event.

He further went on to say that the PCB is in constant touch and consultation with the team owners and they are very much sure to work at pace to finalize all the arrangements related to the event and the details of it are going to be shared in due course of time.

The tournament that has started originally on 20th February and was held at a special set-up of bio-bubble in Karachi was halted after the first 14 games as cases of Covid-19 were traced because of a breach of the bio-bubble. The 15th game of the league between Islamabad United and Quetta Gladiators has to be postponed after Fawad Ahmed of Australia has been tested positive for Covid-19. Three more cases were reported across the team subsequently and it has forced immediate suspension of the league.

The schedule was then finalized by PCB for the rest of the tournament that is going to be played in a stricter bio-bubble in Karachi and it was slated to start from 1st June. But the Covid-19 situation worsened in Karachi and it has forced the franchises to write to the PCB seeking that the tournament is moved out preferably to the UAE. The country has also hosted the tournaments successfully in the past.

The plans met with an unexpected objection from the UAE government and it has insisted that everyone coming to the city should have taken vaccination. The PCB had contended that it is going to have no control over the television crew members and the foreign technicians who are coming from different nations including India.
