He received all three of his degrees (BA, MS, MD) from the University of Tennessee. After graduation, he moved to San Diego, CA, where he completed his internship and residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology at the US Naval Hospital. Dr. Slowey’s fellowship in Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility was completed at the Michael Reese Hospital/University of Illinois program in Chicago.

An expert in his field, Dr. Slowey holds Board Certifications in General Obstetrics and Gynecology and Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility from the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology. Dr. Slowey is also an active member of the American Society for Reproductive Medicine, Society for Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility, Society for Assisted Reproductive Technologies, and the American Congress of Obstetrics and Gynecology.

Dr. Slowey has been in practice for over 30 years, the last 10 in the Lowcountry. His experience includes being Director of the Division of Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility for the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at the Naval Medical Center in Portsmouth, VA, and a member of Reproductive Medicine Associates of New Jersey (RMA) for 8 eight years.

He has focused his career on patient care and has been the recipient of numerous awards including the National Faculty Award for Excellence in Resident Education from the Council on Resident Education in Obstetrics and Gynecology in 1995, being listed in the New York Metro Area Top Doctors for 7 years (2002-2008), New York Magazine’s Top Minimally Invasive Surgeons (2002), NJ Savvy’s Top Doctors for Women (2005-2008), New Jersey Life’s Top Doctors (2004 &2005),  listed in America’s Top Ob/Gyn’s by the Consumer Research Council of America for 7 years (2004-2012) and being included in US News Top Reproductive Endocrinologist in 2011, 2012 and 2013.

Dr. Slowey’s clinical interests include the mechanism of follicular selection, recurrent pregnancy loss, pre-implantation genetic diagnosis, and the impact of GnRH analogs on ovarian function and implantation. Dr. Slowey has lectured extensively on these and other related topics and has authored several original research articles and abstracts that have appeared in major medical journals.

Reproductive endocrinologists, or REs, are fertility/infertility specialists. They are the only doctors trained in providing fertility treatments using assisted reproductive technologies (ART) such as in-vitro fertilization (IVF) and egg freezing. REs are also trained in obstetrics and gynecology, and then have additional training to provide fertility treatment (more on that later). REs diagnose and comprehensively treat infertility, polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS), or abnormalities of the reproductive system, and perform fertility preservation procedures like egg freezing.
