As Amazon and Visa came to a resolution, the former has decided to pause the ban on UK Visa credit cards. Previously, the world’s largest online retailer told UK customers that they won’t accept Visa credit cards on the site anymore.

They announced in November that they will start the new rule from January 19th, 2022. According to Amazon, that decision was taken because Visa charges high fees for processing credit card transactions. Since then the two companies have been engaged in a bitter dispute described as a ‘game of corporate chicken’.

On Monday morning, customers received emails from Amazon telling them they will be able to use their Visa credit cards to buy products and for Amazon Prime.

The email said the impending change regarding the use of credit cards of Visa will no longer happen on January 19th. They are working with Visa to come to a resolution soon. And until then the UK users can continue to use their Visa credit cards on the platform. The mail also said that the company will give its customers advance notice if the changes happen in the future.

Nearly 90% of Britons buy products from Amazon and UK has almost 21 million Amazon Prime memberships. It was claimed that Amazon would lose nearly £1.4 billion UK shoppers if they continued with the ban on Visa credit cards.

Not just Amazon, Visa also would have lost a lot of revenues if customers were forced to choose other cards. The presumed crisis talks over the weekend between the two companies have been fruitful as the ban has been postponed. It would have become extremely inconvenient for UK shoppers as many of them use Visa credit cards. Amazon Prime would have lost thousands of subscribers as the payment option changed.
