Speedrunner Beats Super Mario Bros. In A Record Breaking Time And Creates History

On Wednesday, speed-runner Kosmic sets history by becoming the first person to defeat Super Mario Bros. in just 18 minutes and 59 seconds, well 18:59:856 seconds to be exact, that too without ‘warping’ or trying to skip ahead by glitching the game.

Speedrunner breaks Super Mario Bros. record in such a less amount of time that it is quite hard to believe that fact that it took Kosmic only four attempts to beat three other records of Super Mario Bros. and become the fastest person ever to defeat the game without any glitching. Other gamers have come close to 19 minutes to beat the game. This means Kosmic will remain the record holder for a long time now.

The history of speed-runner has been quite large but not that much popular in gaming history. Glitching and ‘warping’ has been a part of many speed-runs, as it helps to go ahead of the game to a point where it can be easily and quickly won. The event of beating the game in just 16 minutes and 58 seconds, with warps by the Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time speed-run, can be taken as an example. To be as quick as Kosmic, a lot of experience and memorization of the gaming world is required.

Super Mario Bros. is considered to be the gold standard of speed-run games, due to the fact that it has been around for quite a long time now. For speed-runners holding a record in Super Mario Bros. is as important as winning a gold medal in athletics but with way less esteem.

The official time of beating the game was declared by the official website for the verification of runs of professional speedrunners, Speedrun.com. The most impressive thing about Kosmic is that he beat the game in only four attempts.

With the continuous changes occurring in the speedrunning world, Kosmic will definitely put more efforts to surpass his record, which seems to be quiet possible. Well, the world is full of surprises, so maybe someone else will come around and beat Kosmic’s record by the smallest margins possible.

Kosmic even mentioned that he had also tried to reduce the time to 18 minutes and 58 seconds or around 57 seconds. The immense level of dedication these gamers put in, it would not have been astonishing if he had done that too.

Kosmic created this record, just when the release of Super Mario Maker 2 in the Nintendo Switch is around the corner. The 2nd installment of the game allows the users to restructure the levels of the original Super Mario Bros. so that no part of the game becomes unnecessary to be memorized easily.
