A bio-chemist from Virginia is named the 2020 miss America winner after a live experiment in science is performed by her defying the stereotypes that are prevalent in the contest.

50 women are defeated by Camille Schrier in the final on Thursday to take the crown which was held in Uncasville, Connecticut.

The judges were impressed by the 24-year-old who wore a lab coat and made a demonstration in chemistry in the talent show.

A scholarship of $ 50,000 (£ 38,000) was won by Ms. Schrier and will be in the role of Miss America for one year.

Ms. Schrier gave an acceptance speech where she said that she is hoping that stereotypes are broken regarding the meaning of Miss America in the year 2020.

Two science degrees as an undergraduate are held by Ms. Schrier and she is pursuing a doctorate in pharmacy at the Commonwealth University in Virginia.

The celebrity panel was reportedly told by her, which comprises Lauren Ash, the Superstore actress, Karamo Brown from Queer Eye’s and Kelly Rowland, that Miss America needs to educate.

Ms. Schrier in her Miss America role will be spending a year and will advocate for a prevention program in drug safety called Mind your Meds.

The victory for Ms. Schrier can be viewed as a progressive step that is expected to break the traditions in the format of Miss America’s beauty contest.

An attempt is made to re-brand the image of the competition since the year 2018 as the swimwear segment has been scrapped off along with the judging criteria based on appearance.

Instead, the talents are showcased by the contenders and they are interviewed regarding their intelligence, passion and their understanding of the role of Miss America.

According to Gretchen Carlson, who is a former winner of Miss America said that the candidates will no longer be judged for their outward qualities like physical appearance which comes as a huge statement and the reforms were announced by her in 2018.

According to the organizers, more and more young women are encouraged because of these changes and there has been more participation.

It was confessed by Ms. Schrier by earlier this tear that she is a ‘quirky scientist’ who has told the BBC that she wants to break the stereotypes of people who are competing for the title of Miss America.

As of her experiment in science, which involves hydrogen peroxide’s catalytic decomposition has been a ‘big factor’ and she said that this has helped her win the title of Miss Virginia in this year June.

While there was an acknowledgment, there is also controversy regarding this kind of competition and according to Miss Schrier who said that re-branding is done in miss America and it has become very progressive by shifting the focus more on the achievement of women rather than on the appearances.
