The Fourth Installment Of The Witcher Might Get A Release As CD Projekt Red Signs Deal With The Author

A sequel to The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt might get a release. The developer CD Projekt Red is more likely to make The Witcher 4 after signing new deal with author of book series.

Though The Witcher 3 was an immense success and the best-selling game of the series, the developer went in a different direction with the next game, which is Cyberpunk 2007. It is a first-person shooter game, opposed to a third-person RPG. Just because the developer decided to try something new, it didn’t mean that they would return to the timeline of The Witcher.

After years of disagreements, CD Projekt and the author of the series Andrzej Sapkowski have come to terms. The author had sold the rights of the video game to CDPR for a very small amount as he had assumed that the game wouldn’t be successful.

CD Projekt Red also released a statement that reads, ‘The agreement confers new rights upon the Company and reaffirms its existing title to The Witcher intellectual property in developing video games, graphic novels, board games, and merchandise’.

Now that both the sides have come to terms, The Witcher 4 will certainly see daylight. Since CDPR is committed to the development of Cyperbunk 2077, the project might get delayed. It is still not clear whether the game will feature the protagonist Geralt of Rivia or it will shift to Ciri.

In 2017, the CEO of CDPR, Marcin Iwinski said that they weren’t abandoning the-then IP but it wasn’t their focus. The statement was given before they had come to terms with The Witcher’s author. Everyone knows that their current focus is Cyberpunk 2077.

Recently, the first season of The Witcher was released by Netflix and it received mixed reviews. The show will have a second season and its success would determine whether CDPR will begin to work on the fourth installment or not.
