Terror attack in Sri Lanka killed around 290 people

On Easter Sunday morning, around nine bombs tore through churches and hotel in three Sri Lankan Cities. The death number is almost 290 and 500 people are injured till today’s update. Defense Minister Ruwan Wijewardene has described the coordinated blasts as a terrorist attack by religious extremists.

The way the blast have been synchronized and orchestrated it is claimed by different sources as the typical Islamic State attack. On this matter, the Modi government is closely working with Lanka. Due to the nature of the attack, the Islamic state is suspected. It is assumed that to attract international attention they attracted Churches. This blast created a huge global impact. Sources state that ISIS seeking revenge for the New Zealand mosque attack could be behind Sunday’s episode.

A report stated that national Thowheeth Jama’ath was planning to carry out a suicide attack mainly targeting the churches as well as the Indian high commission in Colombo earlier in this month. The High Commission is located in the Sri Lanka capital Colombo and also close to the seafront. NTJ is a radical Muslim group in Sri Lanka who were brought into notice in the last year when it connected to the vandalization of Buddhist statues. It is alleged that the Buddhist- Christian tension that is been simmering over reports of conversion and the attack can be the result of it.

The PM has helped Sri Lanka in every possible way and also ensured its security against the challenges such as those posed by terrorism. He even offered the required treatment to the injured people. The Indian High Commission in Tweet exclaimed that they will closely examine the situation.

MEA informed in a statement within hours of the serial terror strikes reminiscent of 26/11 that India is always against the terrorism and requested the international community to take strict action against the terrorism which includes cross-border terrorism.  MEA mentioned that there can be no justification for any kind of terror attack and those who provide support to them should be brought to justice expeditiously.
