Due to the recent developments, the growing optimism of the professional baseball coming back to the season has been crushed.

Recently, Robert Manfred, the MLB commissioner made a devastating statement regarding coming back to professional baseball. After the announcement of the return of baseball in 2020, Manfred said that he was not confident about the return of the sport in this season.

Robert Manfred ‘Not Confident’ there will be a 2020 MLB season that came out during a conversation with Mike Greenberg for ESPN.

Though the negotiations between the MLB and MLBPA are still going on, yet it does seem that the two parties stand far apart from each other. Among the top topics of debate between the groups are the safety and health of the players and certain protocols that are needed to be followed.

Complications also rose due to the number of games to be played and the salary the players would be receiving for the season.

The MLBPA released a statement on Saturday stating that continued dialogue between the parties would be ‘futile’ and that it’s ‘time to get back to work’.

Manfred can manage to run a shortened season of play with around 50 games. But, the union can file a grievance against the MLB for not following the contract of putting effort into conducting as many games as possible.

Bill Shaikin from The Los Angeles Times stated that the MLB told the MLBPA the 2020 season would not happen unless and until the union raised any legal claims against the league.

The players’ union is set to debate that more games need to be played, while the league has the points of arguing that the union did not negotiate in good faith.

Many players have come out speaking against the MLB and the recent negotiations, such as Cincinnati Reds’ Trevor Bauer. The offers of MLB have been offering the same money, only repackaged and sold in different ways during each offer. As the negotiations are continuing, and more reports are coming out, it can be expected that the players would soon come out speaking about it and making their voices heard on social media.

As the days are passing, people are waiting for the season to continue. But, due to various conflicts over the multiple subjects, 2020 may not see the game of baseball.

The fans can only wait and watch about the commencement of the season. Negotiations have stopped and still, there is some optimism about the return of the game, however, the parties have not yet reached any conclusion about its return.
